A fight over shovelling snow turned violent when, before taking his own life in Pennsylvania, a man fatally shot his two neighbours, authorities said.
The Citizen’s Voice recorded that Jeffrey Spaide, 47, shot dead his across-the-street neighbours, James Goy, 50, and his wife, Lisa, 48, as they were clearing snow in Plains Township on Monday morning.
There has evidently been an ongoing conflict between neighbours, some of which involved a dispute about snow disposal and removal,” said Sam Sanguedolce, First Assistant District Attorney of Luzerne County.”
“They are across the street from each other, and when they remove snow, they throw it across the street at the property of the other person.”
Spaide went back into his home after slaughtering the couple and took an AR-15-style rifle, authorities said.
Plains Township Police Sgt. Michael Smith told the paper, “He retrieved the rifle and shot them again.”
The police said that Spaide then returned to his home and used a third rifle to kill himself.
Their deaths are being prosecuted by authorities as possible murder-suicide.
The gruesome incident occurred as the East Coast was battered by Winter Storm Orlena, dumping in some areas as much as 30 inches of snow.
Meanwhile, after wandering away from home in a storm, an elderly woman in Pennsylvania froze to death.
The Morning Call announced that Patricia A. Becker, 67, who had Alzheimer’s disease, was pronounced dead early Monday from hypothermia after being found lying on a street about four blocks from her home in Allentown.
