Bring It On is a popular cheerleading series that debuted with Kirsten Dunst and has since spawned a slew of spin-offs, several of which have gone straight to video/real time. Drew Barrymore’s character returns to secondary school as a covert journalist in the Drew Barrymore parody Never Been Kissed. Wilson’s most recent satire was The Hustle, a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Anne Hathaway, and she’ll next be seen in Charlotte Gainsbourg’s The Almond and The Seahorse.
With films like Isn’t It Romantic, The Hustle, and The Brothers Grimsby, Wilson has created a career out of her ugly form of satire, capitalising on the love for classic comedies and cutting-edge perspectives. She’s changed a lot since her Pitch Perfect days as “Fat Amy,” but she’s kept her comedic abilities and sensibility. Senior Year, which looks and sounds like it will be a triumphant equation for the performer and an expected hit for Netflix, is getting a trailer.
Wilson and Netflix revealed the release date for Senior Year today, as well as revealing the film’s primary authority image. Senior Year is “like the ridiculously entertaining adoring spawn of Bring It On and Never Been Kissed,” Wilson said of the upcoming parody. Wilson’s cheerleader character “tumbles off a pyramid and into a 20-year unconsciousness, she awakens as a 37-year-elderly person, ready to get back to secondary school, recover her status, and guarantee the prom sovereign crown that eluded her,” according to the Netflix original film, which will be released on May 13th, 2022.
