When he was a guest star on the popular sitcom “Friends,” actor Tom Selleck revealed that he was “scared to death” and that his co-star Courteney Cox, who was also his on-screen lover in the show, was a big help.
Friends launched the “Blue Bloods” actor in 1995, alongside Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and Courtney Cox. Dr. Richard Burke, who was the lover of Cox’s character Monica Geller, was played by Tom Selleck.
Tom Selleck opened up during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, telling, “The hardest thing is to guest on a show. I try to relax the new actors because that’s really hard to come on a show where everybody’s up to speed. I was scared to death. I had done an episode of ‘Taxi’ a long time before, but I hadn’t done a sitcom. And so, I was really nervous.”
However, Selleck stated that Courtney Cox was a “huge assist” in welcoming him into the Pals universe, and that the cast of the 90s comedy is a real-life friendship group in addition to being friends on the show. The “Jesse Stone” actor said, “Courtney helped a lot. Courtney’s a big help. But that group’s an incredible group of friends. They obviously became friends in life as well as on the show. And it shows. It was a wonderful place to work.”
Tom was supposed to be a one-time guest star on Friends, but in addition to being the boyfriend of one of the show’s most beloved characters (Monica Geller), he made nine appearances between 1995 and 2000.
