The owner of the Mets appeared to delete his account on Friday night, first found at 9:20 p.m. With the hedge-fund billionaire during the GameStop stock chaos, after a very active and rocky week on the social media site.
A combined $2.75 billion was reportedly invested in Melvin Capital Management by Cohen’s Point72 Asset Management and fellow Citadel hedge fund managed by billionaire Ken Griffin, which was crushed after a short squeeze attempt on GameStop stock. Melvin is managed by Gabe Plotkin, Cohen’s former protege. The net worth of Cohen is an estimated $14.6 billion,
“Tonight’s rough crowd on Twitter,” Cohen tweeted Wednesday night. “Hey, stock jockeys are continuing to bring it.”
After the Barstool Sports creator blasted the Mets owner for restrictions on trading apps such as Robinhood that hurt the inexperienced investors behind the ballooning of GameStop’s stock value, Cohen got into a Twitter back and forth with Dave Portnoy on Thursday.
“Hey Dave, What’s your beef with me,” Cohen tweeted back. “I’m just trying to make a living just like you. Happy to take this offline.”
The two did seem to find mutual respect at the end as Portnoy tweeted: “At least you are speaking and trying to answer. That is appreciated.”
Portnoy seemed to take some joy in Cohen deleting his account by responding with an emoji of a smiling face with sunglasses to a tweet about the storey.

“Hey, I don’t want to hear from you. Do you know what I’m talking about?” Said, Esiason. “You billionaire hedge-fund. Only keep your mouth closed. The other thing is, he also put out another one: Hey stock jockeys, keep bringing it.” Because he discounts the people of Reddit WallStreetBets as ‘stock jockeys’ and takes shots at them as he knows what’s going on because all these decisions are taken by him sitting in this hedge fund king chair.
“I hate that. That’s why, this morning, when I came in, I told you, ‘Do you know what? I swear to God, before I figure out exactly what’s going on here, I’m not going to go to another Met game. This really makes me sick to my stomach.”
Cohen’s contact on Twitter with Mets fans, taking feedback and promising a return to black jerseys had become part of the new owner’s charm. For now, that appears to be on hold. Evan Roberts, a fellow WFAN host and Mets fan, found some humour in Cohen shutting down his account.
