Ackles recently spoke on co-star Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, where Rosenbaum asked Ackles what Marvel or DC project he’d like to be a part of. Ackles responded that he is now working with unnamed partners at Warner Bros. on developing a DC IP. Ackles expects the project to be completed and has no wish to curse it by talking about it excessively. You can read the whole of his response here: “There is a DC property that I’m as of now growing right now with Warner Bros. what’s more some other great partners that I have my fingers crossed for. In any case, once more, I’m not going to discuss this is because I would rather not curse it.”
At the moment, Ackles is developing Winchester, a Supernatural prequel series that will focus on Sam and Dean’s parents. Given Ackles’ positive working relationship with The CW and the fact that he has played two separate roles in the Batman universe, Ackles could be working on the recently announced Gotham Knights series. However, given that the series has effectively announced its innovative cast and central plot, and Ackles was not mentioned, it is inconceivable unless he is joining the project late or was kept hidden from the announcement.
In addition to the recently released Peacemaker, the work Ackles is discussing might be a TV series for HBO Max, which is developing projects based on Green Lantern, John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, and Colin Ferrell’s depiction of the Penguin in The Batman. HBO Max is also working on a couple of DC projects, including the upcoming Batgirl. While DC has a long list of projects in the works, considering the organization’s extensive cast of characters, it’s unlikely that the film or television show will be one that has already been mentioned. While Ackles remains tight-lipped about what it could be, hopefully more information will emerge shortly.
