Governor Andrew Cuomo was roasted without mentioning the notorious nursing-home programme of his own administration, which has been accused of contributing to more than 8,700 senior deaths, for blaming COVID-19 deaths on “incompetent government.”
Cuomo accused former president Donald Trump of mishandling the pandemic during a Tuesday appearance on MSBNC, saying: “Incompetent government kills people.” In COVID, more individuals died than expected to die. This is the reality.’
Critics who pointed to the state’s since-rescinded March requirement for nursing homes to welcome ‘medically healthy’ coronavirus patients immediately jumped on the claim, which Cuomo later echoed on CNN.

Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Queens), whose uncle Son Kim died in a nursing home after experiencing “all the symptoms” of COVID-19, noted that the administration of Cuomo declined to reveal the numbers of residents of the nursing home who died of coronavirus in the hospital.
When we are just asking for basic facts and for him to constantly go on national TV to present himself as the governor of facts and transparency, his constant gas lighting is stressful for all of us… at this point it is beyond reprehensible,” Kim said.”
Minority Leader Will Barclay (R-Syracuse) of the Assembly also said, “The governor seems to have forgotten what happened in our own nursing homes and the sluggish rollout of the vaccine we are experiencing.”
“Thousands died, but because this administration is protecting its own image, we still don’t know the true number of fatalities,” Barclay said.
“In order to get a vaccine distributed, we should have been prepared to work with counties. But after the entire process was micromanaged from the top, we are now playing catch-up.
Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi said, “Through no fault of their own, the cause of the spread in the nursing homes in each state of this nation was through asymptomatic staff.”
These are very tiny politicians who try to make these very mediocre headlines, and they have to be ashamed of themselves. We’re still trying to fight this pandemic, excuse me,’ he added.
