Kevin Williamson, who also wrote Scream 2 and Scream 4, but not Scream 3, which was composed by Ehren Kruger, created the Scream franchise (The Ring). Wes Fainthearted, the producer of unimaginable awfulness, who died in 2015, was in charge of the first four films. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett, who are also members of the Radio Silence filmmaking collective, composed and directed Scream 2022, which was primarily delivered by Williamson. The group has been rehired for Scream 6, which will be their next try, due to the success of the last film.
After Dewey’s death in Scream 2022, Cox and Campbell are the franchise’s final remaining original stars. With the franchise still going strong and more Ghostface killings on the way, it’s safe to assume that one of the two will die in Scream 6, provided they both return. Cox is willing to return, but Campbell has yet to comment on a return to Woodsboro for another romp. As sequels continue, recurring characters’ chances of survival become more fragile and weak, but it’s likely that Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett have something unique up their sleeves for Scream 6 that will completely defy those expectations.
Courteney Cox has stated that she would be willing to return for Scream 6. Cox has appeared in all five Scream films to date, beginning with the 1997 original from director Wes Fainthearted. Storm Weathers, played by Cox, begins the franchise as a news reporter investigating the Woodsboro Ghostface murders, eventually becoming engrossed in the investigation and teaming up with Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott and David Arquette’s Representative Dewey Riley to solve the case. Cox has managed to survive the franchise thus far, whereas practically everyone else has died at the hands of Ghostface from one film to the next.
Cox has worked on a variety of projects during her career, most notably as Monica on the successful Network show Friends. She also starred alongside Dolph Lundgren in the first Masters of the Universe film, and later played Michael J. Fox’s female interest on the programme Family Ties. Prior to moving on to the smash sitcom Cougar Town on TBS, Cox appeared in Jim Carrey’s Pro Ventura: Pet Investigator and starred in the show Soil on FX. She’ll next be seen in Starz’s ghastliness satirical series Shining Vale.
