Johnny Depp sued Heard for defamation after she claimed she had been assaulted by the actor in a column. A petition calling for Amber Heard’s removal from ‘Aquaman 2’ has gathered over 2 million signatures.
In the midst of actor Johnny Depp’s bitter court battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard, a petition on Change.org is gaining traction. The campaign to get Heard removed from Aquaman 2 has exceeded the two million signature mark. Depp, who played Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, was dropped by Disney in the fifth edition after rumours that he had attacked his ex-wife.
Heard plays Princess Mera in the film Aquaman. Jason Momoa plays the superhero in the film. Heard “has been unmasked as a domestic abuser by Johnny Depp,” according to the petition, and her role in Aquaman 2 should be cancelled to prevent the alleged violence from being “sensationalised.” The petition reads, “Also, Amber Heard was arrested in 2009 for assaulting a prior domestic partner, Tasya Van Ree, establishing a pattern of violence by Amber Heard.” In December 2018, Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against Heard after she wrote a column for The Washington Post in which she referred to herself as a “public figure symbolising domestic abuse.”
Heard, 36, did not name Depp, 58, but he has sued her for falsely accusing him of being a domestic abuser, seeking $50 million in damages. Heard, a Texas native, countersued for $100 million, alleging that she was subjected to “rampant physical assault and torture” at his hands. Depp, who earlier testified on his own side, blamed Heard’s allegations for the loss of his lucrative role as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
